Sleeping Giants Brasil’s campaign to demonetize Jovem Pan gained new momentum after the attempted terrorist attack in Brasilia. The arrest of Bolsonarist George Washington Oliveira Sousa shortly after fires and riots in the federal capital has heightened the repercussions of SGB complaints about companies to stop “sponsoring putsch speeches”.

Launched last Wednesday (12/21), the demonetization campaign directly appealed to broadcaster advertisers with a video showing Jovem Pan commentators advocating coup d’état acts in the US and Brazil and indicating that the victories of Presidents Joe Biden and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva would have been an imposter.

After TIM announced that it had requested a review of the ads shown on the channel, two other companies followed suit: C6 Bank and Burger King.

In response to the campaign, C6 Bank said on Twitter that “we are already dealing with it” and Burger King thanked the “warning”. “The ad is already deactivated,” the fast food company added.

YouTube has also recently demonetized all Jovem Pan channels on its own initiative. According to the platform, the decision came after the company identified content that didn’t comply with its content policy.

In addition to Jovem Pan, YouTube has also demonetized the channel of commentator Paulo Figueiredo, nephew of dictator general João Figueiredo, who lives in the United States and has openly defended a civil war in Brazil on Jovem Pan News.
