Russian Olympic figure skater Kamila Valieva performed the famous “Wandinha dance” during her performance at the Russian Figure Skating Championships. The performance, which went viral on social media, earned the 16-year-old athlete a silver medal.
For her portrayal, Valieva dressed as Jenna Ortega’s character, with her trademark braids and frilled gown she wore to the prom in the fourth episode of the series.
The skater began her trick by emerging onto the ice just off the edge of the rink, her hand painted to look like Little Hand.
After skating to the show’s theme, the music changed to “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps, a song that played during the dance scene. And Valieva did Ortega’s choreographed moves for the series.
In addition to her silver medal and internet notoriety, Valieva’s performance also marked her return to skating after she was embroiled in a controversy last February during the Beijing Winter Olympics when it was revealed she had tested positive to the heart drug trimetazidine, banned months earlier. Two other non-banned heart drugs were also found in her sample.
But after being tried, she was able to use the fact that she was a minor to continue competing.
