Slater Vance, son of actress Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever After”) and actor Courtney B. Vance (“Lovecraft Country”), has apologized on social media for a nasty prank he pulled on his mother , saying actor Michael B Jordan (“Creed: Born to Fight”) had died.
The 16-year-old’s “joke” was a joke that has become trendy on TikTok, in which social media personalities tell their parents that a celebrity they care about has died. In the boy’s case, there’s an added layer of cruelty, as Bassett knows Jordan personally – the two worked together on ‘Black Panther’ (2018).
The actress’s reaction video was posted on the dance platform on Saturday (31/1), but was later deleted due to negative audience reaction.
Bassett was shocked to hear the information and was quick to confirm it was true, while his son could be seen smiling at his mother’s reaction.
It’s worth mentioning that the actress has already dealt with the loss and grief of another ‘Black Panther’ co-star, Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020 after a secret battle with colon cancer. This only increased the tide of criticism against the teenager’s video, which made him publicly apologize.
“I apologize to all of Michael B. Jordan’s family, his extended family and directly to Michael, as he is my idol and participating in a trend like this is completely disrespectful,” Slater Vance said in a new video posted Sunday. /1).
“I apologize for any harm my actions may have caused to Mr. Jordan or my parents or anyone else who may have been involved in this,” he added. “I’m really, really, sincerely sorry.”
So far, Michael B. Jordan has not commented on the “joke.”
