The Austrian actor Florian Teichtmeister, protagonist of the drama “Corsage”, a finalist for the Oscar for the best international film, has been indicted for possession of child pornography.
Austrian authorities found around 58,000 digital pornographic images of minors with Teichtmeister.
The allegations date back to 2021, which led to a thorough investigation against the actor.
His trial will begin on February 8 and he faces up to two years in prison under the country’s laws.
Teichtmeister intends to plead guilty and take full responsibility, his lawyer said in a statement to German news agency DPA. “He confessed during the investigation and has always cooperated with the authorities,” said Michael Rami.
The lawyer also argued that his client had not committed any criminal act directly against the people depicted in the pornographic images, calling his offense a “purely digital crime”.
In “Corsage”, the actor plays Emperor Franz Joseph, husband of Empress Elisabeth (Sissi), played by Vicky Krieps. The film is a fictional and feminist portrait of the famous 19th century empress, who last year won two series, ‘Sissi’, available on Globoplay, and ‘The Empress’, on Netflix. Vicky Krieps won the European Actress of the Year award for her performance, awarded by the European Film Academy.
In a statement, IFC Films, which distributed the film in the United States, regretted the allegations but appreciated the work of other technical team members. “We have just learned of the allegations against Florian Teichtmeister and are deeply shocked and appalled”, reads the text, adding: “We will not let the actions of one supporting actor minimize or invalidate the incredible work and achievements of the entire cast and crew ‘Bodice’ crew.”
The film was released in Brazilian theaters last Thursday (1/12).
