The game “Hogwarts Legacy” is about to introduce Sirona Ryan, the first transgender character in the Harry Potter saga.
Sirona is the owner of the Three Broomsticks tavern in the village of Hogsmeade. In one of her role-playing missions, she recalls her student days and how it took her sorcery colleagues some time to recognize her pronouns.
According to GameRevolution, in another place, Sirona describes how she became friends with the elf Lodgok. She adds that she hadn’t seen her colleague in years, but that Lodgok “recognized her instantly.”
It is also worth mentioning that the game allows the user to create a trans character. For example, you can create a female-looking avatar with a male voice.
Sirona’s inclusion caused some concern, as Harry Potter creator JK Rowling is known to be transphobic.
Rowling’s crusade emerged about three years ago on social media and attacks transsexuals in the most sensational way possible, considering them potential rapists of women.
“I refuse to bow to a movement that I believe is doing demonstrable harm by attempting to erode ‘woman’ as a political and biological class and providing cover for predators like few before them,” she wrote. “When you open the doors to toilets and changing rooms to any man who thinks or feels like a woman — and, as I said, gender confirmation certificates can now be issued without the need for surgery or hormones — you open the door to it leads to all men who want to get in. That’s the simple truth, ”completed the author.
She was smitten with trans actress and activist Nicole Maines, star of ‘Supergirl’, who faced prejudice for using the school restroom as a teenager and, with the help of her family, brought about a change in US laws. She has also received reviews from the cast of the ‘Harry Potter’ film franchise, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
The producers of “Hogwarts Legacy” explained that the writer has no involvement in the project, which takes place decades before the story presented in the books.
The new Warner Bros. game will launch for PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC on February 10. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will be available on April 4th, and Nintendo Switch users will have to wait until July 25th.
