Ceylon cinnamon added to coffee boosts sweetness and health

Adding half a teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon to coffee makes the beverage sweeter and healthier while regulating blood sugar, Polish lifestyle publication Chillizet reported.

The outlet advised choosing Ceylon cinnamon over common cassia because cassia contains high amounts of coumarin, a compound that can place extra strain on the liver when consumed in large quantities.

The article pointed to research demonstrating that cinnamon can slightly improve insulin sensitivity, thereby helping the body manage blood glucose levels. The spice also lends a mild sweetness and richer aroma to the cup, allowing drinkers to enjoy a sweeter profile without using refined sugar.

Coffee itself can serve as a steady component of a healthy, balanced diet when consumed in moderation. The beverage supplies potent antioxidants, particularly polyphenols, which help protect cells from oxidative stress. Regular intake may also stimulate metabolism, while several scientific studies suggest that routine coffee drinking can lower the risk of certain liver diseases.

Natural spices for morning coffee

For coffee lovers seeking to enhance the nutritional value of their daily brew, spices provide an easy alternative to sugary syrups. Chillizet explained that natural additions such as cocoa, vanilla, and ginger alter the flavour profile without adding substantial calories, giving ordinary black coffee a completely fresh character.

Ceylon cinnamon, derived from the inner bark of the Cinnamomum verum tree native to Sri Lanka, is often referred to by herbalists and food scientists as true cinnamon. In contrast to cassia cinnamon, which is widely sold in grocery stores because it is cheaper to harvest, Ceylon varieties contain only trace amounts of the toxin coumarin. Polyphenols present in roasted coffee beans act in tandem with these plant compounds, working as cellular protectors against environmental damage.

Preparation and brewing methods

Making the spiced drink requires almost the same preparation as brewing a standard cup of black coffee. The recipe works equally well with ground beans, instant granules, machine brewed espresso, or decaffeinated blends.

According to the guide, drinkers should prepare their coffee in the usual manner before stirring in half a teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon. The liquid must be mixed thoroughly to incorporate the spice completely. A splash of milk can be added for those who prefer a creamy texture, and a light dusting of cinnamon powder across the surface provides an extra burst of fragrance.

The focus on nutrient-enriched coffee follows growing interest in functional morning drinks. Ukrainian news agency UNIAN previously reported on the rising popularity of rejuvenating coffee prepared with hydrolysed collagen powder. The powdered protein dissolves easily in hot liquid without altering its flavour or scent, with advocates stating that it promotes healthy skin, hair, nails, and joints alongside the natural caffeine boost.
