Director David Shneiderov told NEWS.ru that ratings for The Last Knight. Kolobok will not improve after its theatrical release due to a continuing wave of online hate. He said negative backlash against the Russian movie has intensified alongside the success of the new Spider-Man film.
Shneiderov called claims about rival distributors nonsense, noting that Kolobok cannot compete with a foreign franchise that has millions of times more fans in Russia. He said one of the largest cinemas sold only four tickets for a premiere screening of Kolobok.
Cinema Delays and Box Office Impact
The director attributed the low ticket sales to a decision by the association of movie theater owners to hold back Spider-Man until Kolobok premiered. That move angered fans of the Spider-Man franchise.
Shneiderov added that Kolobok may fall short of the foreign picture in both script quality and graphics, while Spider-Man has already generated billions of dollars in box office profit. Film critic Sergei Sychev also previously outlined reasons for the low ratings of The Last Knight. Kolobok, according to Telegram channel Radiotochka NSN.
