Director Destin Daniel Cretton has addressed the delay of the sequel to "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" in an interview with The Wrap.
Cretton said the sequel missed its expected release because of a crisis in the film industry that followed the pandemic and the Hollywood strikes.
Looking at what happened to the industry, at least from his point of view, everything went off the rails after that, Cretton said. He said that if Marvel were still operating at its previous level, two sequels would likely already exist, adding that no one really knows.
Sequel status and original film's earnings
Cretton had previously confirmed that a sequel to "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" was in development. The original film earned $432 million at the worldwide box office.
