Emily Atack apologised to locals in the Spanish town of Mojacar as she married Dr Alistair Garner for the second time, in a lavish ceremony attended by 197 friends and family in the whitewashed Andalusian village.
The couple exchanged vows in the courtyard of a 16th century church before heading out to take photographs in a parked red convertible Cadillac, with their two-year-old son, Barney, sat behind the wheel.
Before climbing into the car, the Rivals star, 36, turned to the locals who had gathered to watch and said, in an apologetic tone: "This is all a bit over the top isn't it?"
Atack has a strong bond with Mojacar. Her father, the pop star Keith Atack, 67, owned a property in the town for decades until 2018, and Emily still spends every summer there.
Locals frustrated by wedding security
The newlyweds rented out two neighbouring restaurants in the historic town for the celebrations. Locals were visibly frustrated when security staff told them they were unable to walk through the area during the festivities.
The wedding comes months after Dua Lipa's marriage to Callum Turner in Sicily in May was heavily criticised by residents after the couple blocked off several streets in the Italian capital. "Palermo is not for sale" was graffitied on the walls of the ancient city as locals protested against that celebration.
Rose petals, Champagne and a three-course feast
After the ceremony, Atack and Garner walked through a shower of rose petals before leading a Champagne toast and mingling with guests.
The wedding party then moved down the steps for a three-course meal. Starters were a choice of cod risotto or mandarin sorbet, followed by a main course of shredded suckling pig with pumpkin compote and roasted apples. Dessert was mango mousse with nougat ice cream and raspberry coulis, served with rum on the rocks and coffee.
Every table on the seating chart was named after the word "love" in a different language, including German, Scottish Gaelic, Hawaiian, Greek, Swahili, Korean, Spanish, Arabic, Indonesian, Fijian and Filipino.
Rivals cast leads star-studded guest list
David Tennant led the star-studded ceremony, joined by fellow Rivals castmates Alex Hassell, Rufus Jones, who plays Atack's on-screen husband, Bella Maclean and Victoria Smurfit.
The show's writer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, also attended, along with fellow lead producer Felicity Tucci and her husband, the Devil Wears Prada actor Stanley Tucci.
Notable absences from the Disney+ drama's cast included Aidan Turner and Danny Dyer. It comes after it was revealed that Atack's ITV gameshow with Dyer, Nobody's Fool, had been dropped after one season.
Atack's former castmates from the Inbetweeners franchise were also not among the guests.
Inbetweeners film and reunion special
Last week it was announced that the Inbetweeners would return for a third film, though it remains unclear whether Atack will reprise her breakthrough role as Emily Hinchcliffe.
It was previously reported that Atack was dropped from the franchise's 10th-anniversary special, Fwends Reunited, on the eve of filming. Sources claimed her co-star James Buckley had given bosses an "it's her or me" ultimatum, amid fears his wife, Clair, would find out about their alleged off-screen romance.
Other famous guests
Comedians Keith Lemon and Katherine Ryan were also among the crowd. Ryan helped herself to pre-ceremony oysters with her husband, Bobby Kootstra, while waiting for the bride.
ITV's Love Island voice-over star Iain Stirling attended with his wife, Laura Whitmore.
