Spanish radio station Europa FM celebrated its 30th anniversary on Monday night with a sold-out concert at the Gran Teatro Príncipe Pío in Madrid, bringing together more than 1,000 listeners and some of the most prominent artists in contemporary Spanish music.
The celebratory evening featured live performances from top domestic acts including Amaral, Pablo López, Arde Bogotá, Nil Moliner, and La La Love You, cementing the broadcaster's standing as a major venue for live local talent in Spain.
Europa FM is a nationwide commercial radio station owned by Atresmedia Radio, the radio subsidiary of the media conglomerate Atresmedia, which also operates Spanish television networks Antena 3 and La Sexta. The anniversary venue, the Gran Teatro Príncipe Pío, is a landmark cultural center housed inside the historic 19th-century Norte train station building in central Madrid.
The outdoor esplanade of the venue transformed into a hub of media flashes and excitement starting in the early afternoon, as fans gathered to watch artists arrive along the red carpet. Red carpet guests walked into the theatre to musical accompaniment provided by DJ Javi Sánchez.
Among the established figures of the Spanish music scene walking the carpet were bands and solo artists including Sidecars, Veintiuno, La M.O.D.A., Vega, and Miss Caffeina. Sidecars is a long-standing Madrid rock band formed in 2006, while La M.O.D.A., short for La Maravillosa Orquesta del Alcohol, is an acclaimed seven-piece acoustic folk-rock ensemble from Burgos. Indie pop bands Miss Caffeina and Veintiuno, along with singer-songwriter Vega, are also regular fixtures across Spanish music festivals.
Opening acts and gala hosts
The live show on stage opened with an energetic performance by Arde Bogotá. The band from Cartagena demonstrated why they are currently experiencing a career high, bringing immense power and style to the event from the opening chords of their song "Los perros".
During their opening set, the group treated attendees to a performance of "Bigger Splash" and gave the absolute live premiere of their new song "Antifiesta". The new track serves as a major preview of their upcoming studio album, titled "Manufacturas del Club de la Gente Sola", which is scheduled for official release on October 2.
Formed in 2017 in Cartagena, Murcia, Arde Bogotá has rapidly established itself as one of the top rock bands in Spain, earning multiple music award nominations for their energetic sound and distinctive vocals by frontman Antonio García.
Following the opening set, the presenters of Europa FM's morning show "Cuerpos especiales", Eva Soriano and Nacho García, stepped onto the stage to host the gala. The pair led the proceedings with their customary cheeky and lighthearted comedic style.
Although the audience initially reacted with a touch of shyness to some of their interventions and prepared stage games, the natural charm of the hosting duo helped navigate the transition moments between performances with consistent good humor. Eva Soriano is a prominent Spanish comedian and television presenter, while Nacho García is a veteran stand-up comedian. Together, they host "Cuerpos especiales", Europa FM's flagship weekday morning comedy and music programme.
Acoustic sets and main stage performances
The tone of the evening shifted into a stripped-down basic format as acoustic music took complete control of the stage. Musician Pablo López delivered a masterclass in intensity and sensitivity at his piano, presenting songs from his recent album "El cuatro", which was released just a few days prior to the event.
The artist, hailing from Fuengirola in southern Spain, delighted the seating area by singing "Esdrújula" and "El patio", before becoming visibly moved during his rendition of "Casi siempre". Born in Andalusia in 1984, López rose to prominence following his appearance on "Operación Triunfo" and has since developed into one of Spain's top piano-based pop-rock singer-songwriters, serving as a coach on the TV talent show "La Voz".
The celebration continued at full energy thanks to the performance of Nil Moliner, who proudly showcased intimate and personal tracks including "Me acuerdo de ti", "Libertad", and "Tu cuerpo en braille". Moliner, a singer-songwriter from Sant Feliu de Llobregat in Catalonia, has built a major national following with his uplifting pop anthems and lively stage presence.
Immediately afterward, Madrid band La La Love You unleashed collective excitement in the seating area as they deployed the setlist for their "El Tour Intergaláctico". The group had the entire theatre audience dancing with the massive impact of their best-known song, "El fin del mundo", alongside performances of "¿Por qué me miráis así?", "El principio de algo", and "La mitad de la mitad".
Formed in Parla, south of Madrid, La La Love You became a pop-punk phenomenon in Spain after "El fin del mundo" became a multi-platinum hit, leading to widespread radio play and major headlining tours across the country.
Grand finale and duet closing
The musical finale was delivered by the pop-rock duo Amaral, marking their only appearance on stage prior to their anticipated end-of-year concerts in Barcelona and Madrid. Band members Eva Amaral and Juan Aguirre performed stripped-back and powerful renditions of "Hacia lo salvaje", "No quiero más canciones tristes", and "Eso que te vuela la cabeza".
Formed in Zaragoza in 1992, Amaral is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed groups in contemporary Spanish popular music, with a discography spanning eight studio albums and numerous national awards across their three-decade career.
The climax of the night arrived when presenter Eva Soriano returned to the stage to perform a duet with Eva Amaral on the iconic track "El universo sobre mí". The performance sealed an emotional ending that left a strong sense of joy among the VIP guests and the audience packing the venue, solidifying Europa FM's role as the home of domestic musical talent on Spanish radio.
