Eurovision 2027: Burgas retains equal semi-final vote

The European Broadcasting Union has confirmed that Eurovision 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria, will retain an equal split between jury and public voting for its semi-finals.

Organisers announced that voting in the semi-finals for the 71st edition of the song contest will continue to be decided 50 per cent by professional juries and 50 per cent by the public, matching the system used last year. Under the rules, if a country's popular vote is invalidated, scores provided by its professional jury will be used to determine whether that country qualifies for the grand final.

Fans of the contest have marked May 1, May 13, and May 15, 2027, on their calendars for the three main dates of the competition. Burgas will serve as the official host city and European capital of song during that week as Bulgaria hosts the event.

The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual international music competition organised by the European Broadcasting Union, an alliance of public service media organisations across Europe. Burgas is a coastal city on the Black Sea in south-eastern Bulgaria, known for its beaches, parks, and cultural festivals.

Mascot Candidates Under Consideration

Bulgarian broadcaster BNT, the radio and television network responsible for Eurovision 2027, has published potential mascot options on its social media accounts. Choices under consideration include the Euroglarus Seagull, proposed by the Burgas Puppet Theatre, and Kapi, a capybara from the city zoo located on the Black Sea coast.

Broadcasting officials confirmed that the seagull and capybara are not the only options being considered for the official mascot of the Burgas event. Public responses on social media will help guide the final choice of the character representing the contest.

Preparation Timeline and Key Milestones

Following the selection of Burgas as host city, organisers established a preparation schedule outlining key development deadlines. Before August 30, officials will announce the creative team responsible for designing the visual and artistic identity of the edition, including the appointments of the executive producer, creative director, and showrunner.

The schedule requires the presentation of the planned budget and financing model before October 10 to guarantee the economic viability of the project. With the timetable established, Bulgaria has officially begun its countdown to host one of Europe's largest television and music events.
