Singer Anitta has sharply criticised contestant Filgueira on the Brazilian reality show Estrelas da Casa after he broke down in tears when he forgot his song lyrics during a guest appearance at the Rock in Rio music festival.
Speaking during her regular advice segment on the TV Globo broadcast on Tuesday night, September 8, the 33-year-old pop star addressed Filgueira's emotional reaction following his performance alongside pagode singer Belo on the Palco Favela stage.
Anitta explained that both she and the program's vocal coach had repeatedly warned the contestants to perform their songs exactly as rehearsed. She noted that while participants prepare their routines cleanly during studio rehearsals, problems occur when singers attempt to add unscripted vocal melismas, flourishes, and vocal play on stage, leading to errors during live broadcasts.
Addressing the slip up directly, the singer acknowledged that forgetting lyrics during a live performance is entirely normal, admitting that she occasionally forgets the words to her own songs. However, she emphasized that performers must never break down in tears or act like a victim on stage, advising artists instead to pass the lyrics to the audience whenever they lose their place.
Rock in Rio performance
The criticism followed an appearance on Monday, September 7, when ten contestants from Estrelas da Casa joined Belo on stage at Rock in Rio, a major music festival held in Rio de Janeiro. Each contestant was allotted a short solo segment lasting a few seconds to showcase their vocal abilities on the festival's Palco Favela stage.
When Filgueira became flustered during his solo portion and forgot his lyrics, he broke into tears in front of the crowd and was comforted on stage by Belo. Despite crying during the live show, Filgueira later shared a video clip of the moment on social media, describing the performance as an unforgettable day.
Estrelas da Casa format
Estrelas da Casa is a musical reality competition produced by Brazilian broadcaster TV Globo, which premiered its current season on August 25. The competition divides its participants into two distinct musical styles, pop and pagode, a popular style of Brazilian samba, as they compete in weekly vocal challenges.
In the current edition, Anitta serves as the show's overall advisor, offering performance feedback and industry advice to the aspiring artists. Pagode singer Belo and musician Junior Lima serve as team mentors, guiding the contestants through their rehearsals, musical arrangements, and weekly live stage routines.
