Jennifer Gray did not want to star in “Dirty Dancing” with Patrick Swayze: “It was hard”

The 62-year-old Dirty Dancing star appeared on ABC’s The View this week to talk about her memoir, Out of the Corner, and her experience working with Patrick Swayze, who died in 2009 of pancreatic cancer at the age of 57. .

That’s why the actress, who had already run into Swayze on the set of 1984’s Red Dawn, didn’t want to work with him again when she found out he was being considered for the role of Johnny Castle in the iconic Dirty Dancing. Fortunately for moviegoers, then Patrick apologized to his colleague for his behavior already at the screen test stage. The actress remembered how he dragged her into the corridor and said:

I love you, I love you, I’m sorry. I know you don’t want me to do this movie. Forgive me.

According to Gray, tears came to his eyes, and then she knew that they would “work” – as a result, the chemistry between the actors became the highlight of the whole film. Gray also noted the late film star’s incredible natural charisma:

In the 1987 romantic drama Dirty Dancing, Gray plays Frances “Baby” Houseman, a teenage girl whose life changes completely after she meets attractive dance instructor Johnny Castle, played by Swayze, in the summer of 1963. It was revealed last week that Jennifer Gray will return as Baby in the sequel to the cult film, 35 years after the original’s release.
