Johnny Depp puts a price on fallout from Amber Heard accusations

Johnny Depp, involved in the defamation lawsuit with Amber Heard, claims to have lost 22.5 million dollars for the opinion piece of the actress.

The defamation trial facing Johnny Depp Y Amber Heard continues to make all kinds of headlines. The possibility of following live (through YouTube thanks to the channel Law & Crime Network), has turned the unpleasant cause into a popular party, made even more rare by the fiery defenses that the acolytes of each of the stars make of their idols, regardless of what reality seems to be showing in both cases.

Depp, who in this case is the plaintiff, accuses Heard of defamation for an opinion piece published in The Washington Post in 2018 in which, although the actor’s name was never mentioned, it did emphasize that she was a “public figure who represents domestic abuse.” Taking into account the turbulent relationship that she had with Depp since 2009, which ended in the request for a restraining order in 2016, it did not take long for the name of the “abuser” to be publicly known.

“My goal is the truth because it killed me that all those people I had met over the years thought I was a fraud,” said the interpreter who, according to his agent, had to a verbal agreement verbal with Disney that amounted to 22.5 million dollars for shooting the sixth installment of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘.

Depp believes that all of this, plus the actress’s constant and direct accusations about the mistreatment she suffered, began a smear campaign against him that has made him a “pariah” within the industry. Arguing that what he tells about his abuse and substance use are “blatantly embellished” stories, he attributes as proof of the effects that Disney’s announcement about his departure from the saga has caused on his career.

Let us remember that ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl‘ (Gore Verbinski, 2003), the jewel in the crown of the triumphant return to the industry pirate genre – what an injustice about the brilliant ‘The island of severed heads‘ (Renny Harlin, 1995)-, had a Depp who nailed his role as the now indelible Jack Sparrow, tremendously well accompanied by and Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley Y Geoffrey Rush.

Verbinski himself handled the two good sequels, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest‘ (2006) and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End‘ (2007) only to later gracefully step out of the equation and let Disney stretch the gum as best it could with directors in need of accumulating favors. And the box office kept responding with the disjointed ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides‘ (Rob Marshall, 2011) and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge‘ (Joachim Rønning, Espen Sandberg, 2017), but the fear of an upcoming downward income curve was compounded by problems on and off set with its star.

Depp had become uncontrollable. The difficulties in shooting with the actor became public when his divorce from Heard began to occupy covers that, little by little, showed us the actor’s violent character in the domestic sphere and his unleashed substance abuse.
