The domestic violence charge against the creator of ‘Rick and Morty’ has been dismissed

The District Attorney of Orange County, Los Angeles, has dismissed domestic violence charges brought against ‘Rick & Morty’ co-creator Justin Roiland. With that, the case was closed.

“We dismiss the charges today as we do not have enough evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt,” prosecution spokesman Todd Spitzer said in a news release.

Roiland made a post on his social networks celebrating the prosecution’s decision. In his post he said he was happy with the result, but shaken by the lies told about him.

“More than anything, I’m disappointed that so many people quickly judged me without knowing the facts, based solely on the word of an embittered ex who tried to bypass the legal process and ‘cancel me.'”

“That this was even partially successful is shameful,” he continues. “However, now that the legal case is closed, I am determined to move forward and focus on both my creative endeavors and restoring my good name.”

The accusation concerned events that occurred in 2020, when Roiland allegedly attacked an ex-girlfriend. In addition to the personal injuries, he was also charged with false imprisonment for threats, violence and fraud.

Also in 2020, Roiland was reportedly arrested and released after posting $50,000 bail. At the same time, a protection order would have been issued stating that he could not harass, threaten or chase his ex-girlfriend, and that he must always maintain a minimum distance of 30 meters between the two.

In addition to having created the “Rick & Morty” series alongside Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland is also the voice actor of the two protagonists. With the emergence of allegations, he was removed from the series, which will have to hire another voice actor.

The enduring success of “Rick & Morty” has already secured the production of a new season on HBO Max, without Justin’s participation. Even so, his name will always be credited as one of the creators of the design, even if he is no longer part of the production team.
