“I had a crazy desire to leave home, be an actress, right? You earn money quickly. I remember I bought a small apartment with a bedroom and a living room overlooking a hole. I never went there because it was uninhabitable. I was very young, I started working early and my mother was shocked. I was about 17 and I had been working since I was 13. I saved. It was a time when property wasn’t so expensive, and it was very bad,” she said during a meeting with journalists promoted by Itaú, at MASP, in the western region of São Paulo.
“A dream became a nightmare”
As for the biggest financial mistake, Fernanda Torres mentions a real estate investment. Recommended by a boyfriend and driven by the desire to live in a place with lots of greenery, she purchased land in the hinterland. However, the acquisition turned out to be a big trap over time.
“The biggest mistake I made was also related to property. I made a commercial and the contract expired. A friend of mine worked in Amapá and, after the contract expired, he said he was passing by. I contacted the company and received a fine. I had no money to buy a decent place, so a guy told me to buy land and build the house,” he said, making the audience laugh.
With a lot of effort Fernanda managed to build two rooms on the land, but she made some design errors. He said he would rather abandon construction than continue to invest money in the property.
“I managed to build a bedroom and living room facing the wrong side of the sun, and because of the layout of the house, I couldn’t build anything else. That became a living hell in my life. That house was a mistake. There was no way to wash clothes there. Then I built a laundry area… and then I abandoned that place. I dreamed of living in the forest, but I found out that it was a horror to live in the forest. The day was quiet, but when it got dark, I took the car to go to the shopping center to see the people.
