Banda Rooftime makes its Lollapalooza debut with an unprecedented format: ‘Incommensurable feeling’

In addition to the hits “Don’t Let it Go”, “I Will Find” and “Free My Mind”, the show’s repertoire includes previously unreleased songs from the first album.

rooftime go up to Perry’s stage the third and last day of Lollapalooza Brazil 2023, this Sunday, 26; presentation marks the debut of the Brazilian band at the festival. The members (Lisandro Carvalho and brothers Gabriel Souza and Rodrigo Souza) promise to amaze with a new show format to bring the audience closer.

The festival gives impetus to the performance that the trio intend to take across the country in the coming months. The strategy brings only Lisandro to the mixer, while Gabriel and Rodrigo sing and play the guitar. In addition, the overall audiovisual experience is also renewed.

Despite the naming of electronic band, Rooftime does not stick to a single musical style. “This new format in shows allows us to cover all possible musical styles, so we can reverberate our messages more precisely. We feel that the format of electronic music is very stigmatized, the DJ is always behind the table… a Sometimes he doesn’t have a proposal that brings the audience closer, the crowd already knows what’s going to happen”, Gabriel reflects on the trio’s proposal.

The repertoire of the band’s Lollapalooza presentation has 14 songs, including hits Don’t let it go, I will findcollaboration with Vintage Culture, Free my mindcollaboration with Alok and Dubdogz, e I guess I was wrong, released by the Dutch label Spinnin’ Records. In addition, it brings new songs to the stage that will make up the first album, scheduled for the second half of the year, with nine tracks.

Rodrigo explains that the band’s new strategy also allows the repertoire to “reach its maximum potential, generating experiences for the audience”. “Now we feel much freer, with much more freedom. I think this is just the beginning of many things that we will continue to explore”, adds Lisandro.

The trio underline their enthusiasm for the show: “We want to deliver everything we promised to the audience. […] The feeling is unique! It’s been five years since Rooftime, it’s still a little early, everything is still very new, but we’re already coming in with an absurdly large opportunity. It’s an immeasurable feeling.”

The news doesn’t stop at Lollapalooza. On April 28, the band will release an EP with five new tracks. “The EP and the album are on the same path. But I think the album has a little more popular language,” anticipates Lisandro.

As in the stories of the films, the formation of the band, in 2018, began when Lisandro met Rodrigo during the transport to college. The friendship takes shape with the mutual desire to enter the music world, after unpromising experiences in the sector. Gabriel, on the other hand, was introduced by his brother. “Everything flowed naturally and in all of this we could see a good future,” comments Rodrigo.

“The first song that came out was I will find. From the beginning I felt that we were on a path that hadn’t been walked by others. It wasn’t a DJ path, it wasn’t electronic music, it wasn’t a band… I felt that we have to open a new path and create our own market and explore the different. Although it is a dubious path, it is very pleasant. We are making our own choices, in our own way,” Lisandro points out.

Members highlight authenticity as Rooftime’s main differential. Despite references such as The Weeknd, Gorillaz, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, among others, describe that the band “look for originality, even to make songs different from each other, so that the audience can also have different feelings” .
