Gwyneth Paltrow: we explain step by step the most surreal trial of the year

The height of the actress, her friendship with Taylor Swift, a deaf cry… This is what you need to know about the carnival that has been set up around the actress’s ski accident in 2016.

Surely these days you have seen Gwyneth Paltrow sitting on the bench in a court, a lawyer asking her what exactly are the terms of her relationship with Taylor Swift and a retired gentleman trying to stage a deaf cry in front of his honor. If you don’t understand anything, don’t worry: you’re not alone. I also don’t quite understand what this carnival that is setting fire to social networks is about, if what the trial is supposed to be about is a ski accident. So I invite you to walk hand in hand while we discover step by step what happens with the most surreal process so far this year. If they ended up making a film about the trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heardfrom here they could easily get a series with several seasons.

The trial against Gwyneth Paltrow for a ski accident: who accuses her and of what?

Gwyneth Paltrow, the Oscar-winning actress for Shakespeare in love, has been testifying for a few days before the District Court of Park City, Utah, for a ski accident that took place more than six years ago and that has ended up taking her to trial. The one who accuses her is one Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist who claims that the interpreter collided with him on some ski slopes, leaving him with a concussion and four broken ribs.

The man has sued Paltrow, alleging that the actress was skiing out of control and rear-ended him on the slopes of Flagstaff Mountain, inside the Deer Valley Resort, in February 2016. Due to the hit, asks for more than $300,000. The initial amount demanded by the plaintiff exceeded three million, but it has been lowered as the investigation progressed.

According to Sanderson, it was Gwyneth Paltrow’s unconsciousness that caused the collision, breaking her ribs and causing concussion-like symptoms such as memory loss, confusion and irritability that the man says he has suffered for years. The actress has filed a counterclaim for the symbolic sum of one dollar and the costs of her defense – which we can assure you will greatly exceed that figure – as she assures that it was Sanderson who collided with her from behind her and not the other way around. Furthermore, she accuses the plaintiff of trying to exploit her wealth and fame.

According to the actress’s defense, Sanderson did not seem particularly affected or injured after the crash on the ski slopes, for which they accuse him of inventing the aftermath for which he has sued Paltrow about three years after the collision. To demonstrate this, the interpreter’s law firm has provided as evidence a photo that the man took and posted on the networks moments after the coup, where, they say, he is seen “smiling.”

For now, the two involved still can’t agree on who was higher up the slope at the time of the crash, because according to Deer Valley safety policy, skiers below you on the slopes have priority and it’s the obligation of each user to avoid them. For now, the trial has left some absolutely surreal pictures, such as the moment a lawyer jokingly commented to Paltrow about her height and how pretty her shoes were, the details of her friendship with Taylor Swift (who also filed a lawsuit for the same symbolic amount of a dollar) or the moment in which the plaintiff tried to imitate the cry that, according to him, the actress had uttered when heading down the hill towards him, with comical results. Here are some of those moments:

The trial began on March 21 and is expected to conclude this afternoon. After that, an eight-person jury will evaluate the case and deliver its verdict on a date yet to be determined.
