Jennifer Garner is preparing to premiere her new series on Apple TV+ as the protagonist, ‘The Last Thing She Said To Me’, and with which she opens in the role of executive produceralong with his partner and friend, Reese Witherspoon.
Recently, in the premiere from the series in Los Angeles, the interpreter stopped to praise the work of Witherspoon in promoting the female figures within the production in Hollywood.
Talking with The Hollywood Reporter, Garner noted, “I think the older you get and the more you’ve been working for 30 years, the more central you become to the collaborative process.” The actress herself remembered the path that she had followed in the series and the way in which she worked closely with the creators, Laura Dave and Josh Singer. “We took apart the scripts over and over again, we had heated arguments… We finally reviewed everything based on our conversations. They were very open to listening to my proposals and ideas, and they qualified everything based on our work.. I was impressed.”
Although this is her first job as an executive producer, the actress has participated on other occasions in the production sector. In 2021, she produced the Netflix movie, ‘El día del Sí’. She and she has also produced a soon to be released tape, ‘Family Leave’.
Witherspoon seems to be responsible for much of it. The actress, whom we have seen leading big series such as ‘Big Little Lies’ or ‘The Morning Show’, has developed numerous projects as executive producer through her company, Hello Sunshine.
“Honestly, Reese is behind all of this. She pushed me. A few years ago, she said to me, ‘Nobody’s out there thinking, what can I shoot in LA that has a 50-year-old woman in the lead?’ He told me, ‘You have to create your own content,'” Garner said. “Every woman in this town is indebted to Reese.”
‘The Last Thing He Told Me’ will see Garner in the shoes of Hannah, a woman who forges an unexpected bond with her stepdaughter after her husband’s disappearance. Based on Laura Dave’s novel of the same name, published in 2021, the series will also star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (‘Game of Thrones’).
“Hannah and I are quite different, but there was something about her that spoke directly to me. I think she is the heroine of her own story. She’s struggling to be optimistic and that’s something I could relate to,“said the actress.
The role was to be played (originally) by Julia Roberts. However, after the actress exited the project, Garner insisted on starring in it herself.
With a large number of women in its production department, Garner’s new series also has an entire team of women directing. “We really wanted this story to be told through a female gaze,Garner added.
“This is a story about a woman who is learning to trust her instincts. A woman seeking her place and struggling to prove something to herself. No one can tell that better than the women of Hollywood.“
