Mark Hamill brings tears to our eyes with his touching tribute to Carrie Fisher on Star Wars Day: “She was our princess, dammit!”

Mark Hammil read an emotional speech he wrote shortly after the passing of “our princess” Carrie Fisher at her Walk of Fame Star ceremony.

The celebrations of May 4, Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you), had as a climax the tribute in Hollywood to Carrie Fisher with the inauguration of her Star on the Walk of Fame. In an emotional speech, Mark Hamill remembered what was his partner and friend rescuing some words that he wrote shortly after his death, 6 years ago.

Carrie was unique. She belonged to all of us, whether we liked her or not. She was our princess, dammit!

Hamill continued: “The actress became a beautiful, fearlessly independent, fiercely funny, woman who took charge and who took our breath away. Determined and tough, but with a vulnerability that made you root for her and want her to be successful and happy. She played a crucial role in my professional and personal life. Both would have been so much emptier without her.

“Was she unruly? Was she high maintenance? Definitely,” Hamill added. “But it would all have been so much duller and less interesting if she hadn’t been the friend that she was. I will never stop missing her, but I am so grateful to have had her for so long. I’m grateful for the laughter, the wisdom, the kindness, and even the bratty, self-indulgent bullshit my beloved space twin drove me crazy with over the years.. So thank you, Carrie. I love you.”

Also present at the ceremony Billie Lourd, Fisher’s daughterwho has a brief appearance in the last trilogy of the saga as Lieutenant Connix and whom we also remember from series like ‘Scream Queens’ and ‘American Horror Story’. Those who were not there were the brothers of Princess Leia, Todd, Joely, and Tricia Leigh. Lourd withdrew the invitation, generating a controversy that he had to clarify in a statement:

Days after my mother’s death, her brothers chose to mourn publicly and capitalize on my mother’s death.doing multiple interviews and selling individual books for a lot of money, with the death of my mom and grandmother as the subject,” Lourd said. “I found out about this through the press. I was never consulted or considered how this would affect our relation”.

“To be clear, there is no enmity. we have no relationshipLourd added. “This was a conscious decision on my part to break a cycle with a way of life that I don’t want to be a part of for myself or my children.”
