Justice removes Leo Lins video and bans pranks against minorities

Leo Lins was involved in another scam last Tuesday (16/5). This time, the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP) ruled that the comedian delete one of his YouTube comedy videos due to pranking minorities.

According to Judge Gina Fonseca Correa, the video with more than 3 million visits would be “reproducing speeches and positions that are now repudiated”, such as jokes about slavery, religious persecution and other minorities. The decision complied with a request from the public prosecutor of São Paulo.

The magistrate also ruled that Leo Lins must not transmit, post or maintain files of “derogatory or demeaning content based on race, color, ethnicity, religion, culture, origin, national or regional origin, sexual orientation or gender, status of a disabled or elderly, children, adolescents, women, or any category considered to be a minority or vulnerable”.

Leo Lins had to remove any videos mentioning minority groups from his YouTube channel and was forbidden from mentioning them in future jokes. Furthermore, the judge also banned the comedian from leaving São Paulo without judicial authorization for more than ten days.

The decision also requires the comedian to appear in court monthly to justify all of his activities. If he does not comply with the orders, Leo Lins will have to pay a daily fine of R $ 10,000.

Leo Lins’ defense will appeal the decision: “We understand that this would constitute preventive censorship, prohibited by the Constitution,” he said.
