“I’m unemployed, I’m retired”: designer Tom Ford gave the first interview after the sale of the brand

Last year, Tom Ford sold his personal brand Tom Ford to cosmetics company Estée Lauder. Its cost was 2.8 billion dollars. Recently, the famous designer released the latest collection. The other day, his big interview was published by Air Mail. The fashion designer spoke with journalist Bridget Foley. The 61-year-old designer admitted to her that he was very tired. That is why he decided to send his son to a children’s camp and just relax alone.

I will walk around the house in my underwear and a dirty T-shirt, eating cereal from a bowl. I will not take a bath for three or four days. I’m going to stare at the ceiling. Or watch dumb shows on TV. I just want to be left alone,” he said.

Ford also talked about the tragic losses in his life. During the pandemic, the father of the fashion designer died, and then several more friends passed away. After the traumatic experience, Tom sold the business and moved to Palm Beach from Los Angeles with his son.

No responsibilities. I have nothing to do. I am unemployed. I’m on retirement. What I need to do now is take a nap. My father died during the COVID pandemic. I sold my company. We moved. I need a few months to digest everything that happened, and then start writing, he said.

Ford plans to get into film script writing. He has already tried himself as a director. His tapes “Under cover of night” and “A lonely man” were warmly received by critics. The designer admitted that he had never had as much fun as during filming.

I want to make black comedies because that’s life. It’s a dark, bleak comedy. Life is just a huge amount of pain, but at the same time it is so absurd. I think if you don’t approach it from a certain comedic angle, life can kill you. Some friends tell me that I am obsessed with death. Maybe that’s the way it is, but I don’t think I’m obsessed with it in a negative way,” the designer explained.
