Melissa McCarthy (‘The Little Mermaid’) reveals that a filming set made her “physically ill” due to its hostile environment

“There were people crying, it was visible how upset they were because of this person.”

Melissa McCarthy has gotten into the skin of Ursula, the wicked witch of the oceans, for the new adaptation live action from ‘The Little Mermaid’. However, her monstrous facet is something that she only leaves for her characters, since the actress was recently praised as a partner for the film’s protagonist, Halle Bailey.

Despite having been a support for the young actress, as Bailey recently recognized for The Independent, McCarthy hasn’t always had such positive experiences on a film set.

Talking with The Observerthe actress acknowledged having fallen ill during her period of work in a toxic environment, which brought several members of the team and the cast to tears.

This experience taught McCarthy to stand up to this type of behavior and to speak up for a healthy work environment.

I worked for someone, once, who ran a set so volatile and hostile that it made me physically ill,” commented the actress. “My eyes were swelling, I was absorbing all that madness.”

There were people crying, it was visible how upset they were because of this person,” he continued adding. “I think that’s why his manipulation worked, because to get to me this person fired people he liked, so I kept quiet. It was very effective.”

“Until one day I said: ‘Well, this ends here. He kept telling everyone that it was over. To this day I know that I will never shut up again.”

McCarthy now faces the theatrical release of his first Disney musical. Next, she will return to her usual ground with a Christmas-themed comedy titled, ‘Peacock.’

It’s a real struggle trying to do comedy right now. I don’t know why, because never before have we needed to laugh as much as now,“he also commented to The Observer. “Comedy allows you to sit next to someone you don’t share ideas with and maybe walk away with a little closer bond. I think that’s my purpose in this world.”

“I can’t do many useful things. I don’t know how to clean up the oceans or stop violent tendencies. But, With a little luck, maybe I can get someone who’s had a bad day to spend an hour and a half in a different world. where there are no bills, no illness occupying your mind all the time,” he added.

It’s the only ability I really have. So I have to keep trying.” the interpreter concluded.
