Singer Rita Lee, 75, who died on May 8, received a tribute in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The rock star’s name is now the name of a park.

The information was disseminated by the Rio City Hall, which published in the Official Gazette, Wednesday 24, the decree that formalizes the name of the rockeira for the Olympic avenue, which is located within the Olympic Park, in the Barra da Tijuca region, West area.

With 36 thousand square meters, the space will be transformed into a natural public park and the works started in February this year and with delivery scheduled for March 2024. Also according to the City Hall, the space will be on a path that connects the main areas of the space , such as the terraces, the arenas and the Live Site, a built environment for events facing the Jacarepaguá Lagoon. The estimated investment for the work is R$ 36 million.

The space is already known for hosting some famous events, including the city of rock at the Rock In Rio festival.

900 trees and 16,000 shrubs will be planted, as well as space for a skate park, playgrounds, colored pavement and sports fields.

On May 9, the mayor of the wonderful city, Eduardo Pees, took to social media to mourn the star’s death and say he would pay tribute to the queen of rock. Days later, on May 11, she made the official announcement of where the location would be.
