Fell in love, but not immediately: everything that is known about the wedding of the Crown Prince of Jordan

The future King of Jordan Hussein ibn Abdullah marries the beautiful Rajwa. Already on June 1 at 16.00 local time, their wedding will take place in the capital of the country, which will attract guests from all over the world. In the weekly column, we tell what is known about the upcoming ceremony and its main participants.

Prince Hussein was born on 25 June 1994 when his father Abdullah bin Hussein Al-Hashimi was not even the heir to the throne, and nothing foreshadowed that in the future he would become a monarch. The boy was named after his grandfather King Hussein bin Talal, who suddenly changed his heir just before his death. This is how the eldest son of the king from his second marriage, 37-year-old Abdullah, ascended the throne, and not the younger brother of the monarch Crown Prince Hassan, 52, has held the title for 34 years.

Yes, and Prince Hussein himself became the heir to the Hashemite throne only in 2004, replacing his half-uncle Prince Hamza. He graduated from the Jordanian branch of the international network of Choueifat schools, which teach in English, studied at the Royal Academy in Amman until 2012, and received a bachelor’s degree in international history from Georgetown University in Washington in 2016. Another important element of the crown prince’s education: like his father, grandfather, uncles and even aunts and sisters, he graduated from the British Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Right after that in September 2017 he made his world debut: he addressed the UN General Assembly. But two years before that in 2015, at the age of 20, Hussein became the youngest person ever to preside over a session of the UN Security Council. The prince has overseen debates about methods to prevent young people from becoming involved in extremist groups. And the draft resolution “Maintenance of international peace and security” proposed by Jordan during his chairmanship was adopted by the members of the Security Council unanimously. Ban Ki-moon, then Secretary General of the United Nations, said of Hussein:

He is not yet 21 years old, but he is already a leader in the 21st century.

Today, Hussein heads the Crown Prince Foundation, which develops technical education in the country and supports a number of scientific and humanitarian initiatives.

The engagement of the future King of Jordan and Rajwa Khaled bin Musaed bin Saif bin Abdulaziz Al Saif was announced on August 17, 2022. This event took place in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, where she was born on April 28, 1994 and worked recently in the Designlab Experience design studio, the bride of the prince. According to the royal court, her father Khaled bin Musaed bin Saif bin Abdulaziz Al Saif comes from an old noble family. He founded “El Seif Engineering Contracting” one of the largest Saudi construction companies. And he did not spare money for the education of his daughter.

After graduating from high school in Riyadh, Rajwa moved to New York, where she received a bachelor’s degree from the School of Architecture at Syracuse University, and then studied in Visual Communications at the Institute of Fashion, Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. Life in California came to the girl’s taste, and she worked there for some time in an architectural bureau, but still decided to return home. Her acquaintance with the heir to the Hashemite throne was due to his school friend. Edition Vogue Arabia reported that at a recent forum hosted by the Crown Prince Foundation, he revealed that they were introduced by a classmate of his.

Local tabloids claim that it was not love at first sight, moreover, Hussein did not immediately understand that he wanted to continue communicating with this girl. But one day he remembered Rajva and decided to call her. Thus began their romance. Hussein confessed to reporters:

I consider myself lucky. It’s not every day that you meet girls like Rajwa.

His parents obviously liked the choice of their son. On May 22, Queen Rania of Jordan organized a festive “henna night” for her. this is the traditional farewell party of the bride, a kind of bachelorette party, when her hands are painted with henna. The mother of the groom did not skimp on kind words:

I will never forget how happy His Majesty and I were when Hussein told us that he was going to marry Rajwa. She is the perfect answer to all my prayers for him.

Photographs released by the Hashemite court show Rajwa stealthily wiping away her tears during this speech.

The wedding, scheduled for June 1, will take place at the Zahran Palace in Amman. Its name translates as “blossoming flower”. This palace, built in 1957, is located outside the royal complex, and is usually used for ceremonial events. It was in it that the groom’s parents got married on June 10, 1993 King Abdullah and Queen Rania.

After the ceremony, the wedding cortege, accompanied by motorcyclists with red ribbons on their chests, will head to the Al-Husseiniya Palace, where a sumptuous reception will be held with a gala dinner, “with the grandeur of a royal wedding.” Not so long ago, there were reports in the press that after an official ceremony with the participation of representatives of foreign monarchies, Hussein and Rajwa would arrange a wedding party for a narrow circle of friends in Sardinia. But sources in the Hashemite court have already refuted this information.

All celebrations related to the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein and Rajwa will be held only in Jordan, there is no reason to believe that any celebrations will take place outside the Kingdom.

Like it or not, only the bride and groom and their guests know. But about the guests of the official ceremony, journalists already know almost everything. So among the monarchs who confirmed their presence are King Philip of Belgium with his eldest daughter Elizabeth, Duchess of Brabant, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands with Queen Maxima and eldest daughter Katharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange, Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark with his wife Princess Mary, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden with her husband Prince Daniel and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway. According to the Queen of Malaysia, quoted by Holaguests were asked to follow a strict formal evening dress code – women in long dresses, but no tiaras.

But if everything is more or less clear with the guests, then the bride’s dress is shrouded in a veil of secrecy. According to Couture and Royals, in December last year, Queen Rania, Rajwa and her mother Azzu Al Sudairi were seen in Milan in December, so it is possible that the girl entrusted the creation of a wedding dress to an Italian designer. True, on Henna Night, she was dressed in a stunning ivory and gold ensemble by world-famous Saudi fashion designer Honaida Serafi. But, at least, no national costumes are required of her.

Her future mother-in-law, Rania, married Prince Abdullah in a dress designed by Bruce Oldfield, known for designing costumes for Princess Diana and Queen Camilla. The wife of the British King Charles III and at their coronation, which took place on May 6, she wore a dress from this designer. So, although Abdullah was not at that time the heir to the Hashemite throne, his bride in a dazzling white wedding dress with gold embroidery, with a high hairdo under a long veil, looked like a king. No less magnificent – there can be no doubt about it will look like Rajwa on her wedding day with Hussain.
