Private conversations between Gugu Liberato’s children surfaced on Wednesday (31/5), revealing a tense family dispute over the presenter’s legacy. The differences between João Augusto Liberato and the twins Marina and Sofia Liberato concern the division of the inheritance and the recognition of the link between Gugu and their mother, the otolaryngologist Rose Miriam.
According to information from Veja magazine, the recordings were made by the family’s lawyers at the time of the death of the actor, who passed away in November 2019. Now, with the conversations leaked to the press by João Augusto’s defense, the dialogues show the points of view of heirs on their parents’ relationship.
While the twins Marina and Sofia argue that Rose was Gugu’s partner and deserves recognition for her stable union with the presenter, the older brother disagrees. Taking into account the fact that Rose and Gugu never married, João Augusto claims that the agreement between his parents did not imply a love or emotional relationship.
“She wasn’t a surrogate mother,” Mariana exclaims. “She agreed to do this, it was the life she wanted,” replied João, who continues. “Do you think she doesn’t want to see mom happy? And you?” she asks her and then her sister suggests that she doesn’t want to.

So Marina replies: “I don’t want my name to be recognized throughout Brazil as ‘the girl who was born from a surrogate mother’.
“Dad never wanted to get married, he never wanted to live with anyone, but he wanted to have children and we were conceived,” João retorted. The discussion ends with Mariana mentioning Gugu’s alleged boyfriend. “If he is not recognized, another person like Thiago Salvático can file a lawsuit against us,” she stresses.
With the tapes leaking, new problems are affecting the family, as the twins’ lawyers accuse the lawyers of João and his aunt, Aparecida Liberato, of leaking the intimate conversations. According to the twins’ representatives, the conversations were recorded when the brother’s lawyers were still representing them.

According to the will left by Gugu, 75% of the estate is intended for the three legitimate children, while the remaining 25% is intended for the communicator’s five grandchildren.
