Heir to the throne of the Netherlands Katarina-Amalia has entered a new stage in her life

Last Monday, the palace announced that the 18-year-old heiress of the King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexandra, has entered the University of Amsterdam, where she will go to study in the coming autumn. Katarina-Amalia plans to get a bachelor’s degree in politics and law. Contrary to tradition and royal status, the princess, like all students, will live in an ordinary student dormitory. Note that this fact is very unusual, given that, for example, the children of Prince William and Kate Middleton – Prince George and Princess Charlotte – find it difficult to find a common language with classmates while studying in a regular school.

Along with the important announcement, the palace posted on social media a new picture of the princess sitting on the banks of one of Amsterdam’s famous canals.

After graduating from high school, Katarina-Amalia took a year-long break, during which she performed state duties and prepared for admission. Note that her younger sister, 16-year-old Princess Alexia, is studying abroad in Wales, UK. By the way, in addition to Alexia, there is another royal person in the class – the heir to the Spanish throne, 16-year-old Princess Leonor.

Recall that on the eve of the 18th anniversary of Katarina-Amalia, the royal family of the Netherlands refused an annual allowance of $ 2 million. The princess stated that she would return the $400,000 that was pledged for her higher education and would not ask for public money until she became queen.

Also recently, the princess admitted to royal biographer Claudia de Breijs that she does not yet feel ready to take the throne. In the event of the unexpected death of her father, Willem-Alexander, she would have asked her mother, 51-year-old Queen Alexandra, to intervene and delay the transfer of the regalia. It should be noted that the publication of a biography for the 18th anniversary of the monarch is a long tradition of the royal family: such books were published for the coming of age of Willem-Alexander and his grandmother, Princess Beatrix.
