The reporter also recalls being afraid of what the program management might think.
Fernanda Gentil recalled a gaffe that became very famous when she was still hosting a show on SporTV. The year was 2010, during the coverage of World Cup in South Africa. In charge of the “Bom Dia África” program, the journalist ended up extending her hand to greet a blind interviewee.
“I was very embarrassed. And look, it’s very hard to embarrass me, but the situation did. I just withdraw my arm very calmly. What should I do?” Fernanda recalled during an interview on the “Podpah” podcast.
Fernanda also recalls that she was concerned about what the program management might think, but she received support from above.
“[Fiquei] He was afraid they’d think I’d done something mean by making fun of that guy. I sent an email and management replied ‘imagine, we know it wasn’t intentional'”.
The reporter also revealed that she hasn’t escaped public scrutiny on the internet, with her being one of the most commented subjects behind the football legends at the World Cup.
“And then it was just about enduring the fireworks. My name ranked third most talked about on Twitter, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and two other players in the middle of the World Cup. ‘Dumb blonde’ was the thing warmest I have” I have read. He was at that level. Very sinister,” he recalls.
