Belo pays off Denilson’s million-dollar debt after 22 years of court wrangling


The former player fought in the São Paulo court against the singer seeking compensation




After 22 years in court, singer Belo has paid off a millionaire debt to former soccer player Denilson Oliveira. The case took place in the São Paulo justice system. The payment would have been made on Tuesday 11. The information was disclosed by journalist Leo Dias, and was confirmed by the singer’s team.

The case began when Denilson managed the Soweto pagoda gang, whose leader was Belo. The singer broke his contract with the band in 2000 to pursue a solo career and left the group. It was then that Denilson decided to sue him for breach of contract. In 2004, pagodeiro was ordered to compensate the former player, but the decision was not respected.

Since then the debt has piled up and several orders have been given to freeze and pawn the singer’s assets. It was even requested that any prize awarded to Belo for his participation in Dança dos Famosos, part of Globo’s Domingão com Huck program, be blocked by justice to be canceled in payment of the debt.

The court granted Belo’s fee request Sunday with Huck, of TV Globo, was pledged to pay off the debt, but the singer didn’t win the contest. After the repercussions of the lawsuit, the debt was paid. According to the journalist, the value exceeded R$ 7 million.
