Singer Preta Gil was discharged from Sírio-Libanês hospital on Sunday morning (9/10), after a 28-day period in hospital for treatment for bowel cancer. The singer shared the news with her followers on Instagram, declaring herself excited and grateful.
“The long-awaited discharge has arrived, challenging days where I had to face many difficult things but at the same time surrounded by competence and love, lots of love, I am all gratitude. I am very excited and perhaps I am not able to express myself fully, what matters is that I have won this battle, I will strengthen myself for the next surgery and soon I will be able to resume my life,” Preta Gil wrote on Instagram.
Leaving the hospital, the singer showed good humor, playing with the number of suitcases she had, which took up “two trolleys”. She also celebrated the moment to the tune of “Andar com Fé,” a song by her father, Gilberto Gil, and showed off her reunion with her dogs.
“Very grateful for everything I experienced in these 28 days here in the hospital,” she added, thanking the medical team who remained at her side, nurses, technicians and physiotherapists.
Complicated surgery
In August, the singer underwent a long and complicated 14-hour surgery that included an abdominal hysterectomy. The surgery was part of treatment for adenocarcinoma, a type of cancer that affects the intestine and whose diagnosis was confirmed in January this year.
During her time in hospital, Preta used a nasogastric tube to eat and was fitted with an ileostomy bag, which should help her expel waste in the coming months. In fact, the artist declared that her body is still getting used to the surgery.
In a conversation with the newspaper O Globo, the singer explained the current situation: “Today is a day of adaptation at home, with the nurse, with the dressing, with changing the bag (for the colostomy). I understand everything, as it will be, but I am very happy to have overcome this phase. Now I will strengthen myself and take care of myself for the second surgery.”
Next surgery
The next surgery, scheduled for November, is aimed at reconnecting the intestine and removing the ileostomy bag and resuming normal life.
Preta Gil expects an additional month of hospitalization after the next operation. “After this operation, I am free to live my life,” she said.
