Sean “Big” Combs for Lifetime Achievement Award –

Sean “Big” Combs will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 BET Awards.

The award “honors the industry giants who have not only significantly shaped the culture over the course of their long careers, but also been innovative leaders who have consistently inspired generations to set true standards of excellence,” he said.

Combs’ three-year career in entertainment includes music, fashion, television and more. Miss Bad Boy Entertainment Group has carved a new niche in the hip-hop genre, with talent like Lil Kim, Faith Evans, 112, Mase, Total, Junior Mafia and The Lox. Six years after stepping into the music spotlight, Combs has launched a new R&B label, LOVE Records, with the first album due out this summer in association with Motown Records.

Meanwhile, Combs acquired its Sean John fashion line in 2020 and also established a partnership with Diageo for its Ciroc Vodka brand and later acquired the DeLeón tequila brand. It also launched the fitness and wellness water brand AQUAhydrate.

In 2013, Combs launched REVOLT Media & TV, the first black multi-platform cable music network that now reaches 80 million homes and 20 million monthly viewers digitally.

The Combs will be recognized at the 2022 BET Awards, which will air live at 8pm ET (Delayed Pacific Time) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Presented by Taraji P. Henson.

Past BET Lifetime Achievement Award winners include Whitney Houston, Prince, Quinn Latifah, Anita Baker, Mary JW Blaige, Samuel Jackson, Lionel Ritchie and New Edition.

“The great have always been a pioneering force in our society, breaking barriers, reaching unprecedented heights, showing new paths and thus raising the bar for all of us,” said Scott Mills, CEO of BET. “His virtuosity is matched only by his rank, from music to media, culture, business and charity, the great has shown the brilliance of blacks. We are delighted to have the opportunity to use our biggest stage to learn about our friend’s extraordinary achievements.

Connie Orlando, special executive vice president of music programming and music strategy at BET, called Combs “an unparalleled cultural force and creative vision whose influence has created a historic paradigm in music, media, fashion and lifestyle.”

Added Jesse Collins, Executive Producer of the BET Awards and Founder and CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment: “Pap’s contribution to culture goes beyond hip hop. Growing up in DC, I watched him arrive at Howard University as he repeated from day one the brilliance of blacks. It is a great honor to celebrate him now that he is still on his incredible journey.”

Doja Cat leads the BET Awards with six nominations, followed by Ari Lennox and Drake with four nominations each. The full list of nominees can be found here.
