Bruna Surfistinha speaks for the first time about the accusation of animal abandonment; “They banned me”

A dog and three cats were rescued from the apartment where Bruna lived; the place was dirty with feces, urine and hungry animals

Columnist Bruna Surfistinha, pseudonym of Raquel Pacheco Machado de Araújo, has made public her version of the animal abandonment accusation she received in recent days. The manager of the building where Bruna lived, in the center of São Paulo, reported mistreatment and a dog and three cats were saved by the police. Bruna, however, says she did not enter the apartment because she was “forbidden”.

A police investigation into crimes against wildlife is open, conducted in secret at the Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo (TJSP). Videos released by activist Luisa Mell and animal welfare NGOs show Bruna’s apartment full of scattered urine and feces. The images also show the animals being fed, visibly hungry, as they eat the food in bites.

On Instagram, Luisa Mell wrote: “Bruna Surfistinha lived in a rented apartment in the center of SP, with four animals (a dog and three cats) and they were abandoned inside the apartment. Initially she showed up every now and then to give them to eat, but hasn’t appeared for over a week today [quinta-feira, 30 de novembro] the condominium administrator (who is a friend of mine who contacted me for help) went to the police station to make a report and they entered the apartment”.

This Saturday 2nd Bruna, who writes for an “advertising platform for escorts” – as the organization calls itself, gave her version. She posted in her social media stories that she had been trying to enter the apartment for at least three days, but she was unable to. She has posted videos showing her entering numbers into an electronic lock. “Today was my second attempt, the second night I tried to enter my apartment, and I was banned,” she says in one of the recordings.

“And on the third day I woke up in the morning to the news that my pets would be taken away from the apartment. The biggest absurdity is that everything was designed so that I could be seen as a criminal for abandoning the my pets,” said columnist for “Inside a Car.”

Subsequently, Bruna appears to be accompanied by Natália dos Santos Oliveira Machado, president of the NGO Promessa Fiel, where the editorialist’s Labrador dog was taken. In the video, she Bruna says she is relieved to know that the animal is well and she Natália says that she cannot allow him to see the dog due to the court case.

At G1, Bruna’s lawyer, Luis Carlos Pileggi Costa, said that “the story has been manipulated and distorted”. According to him, the animals were not abandoned and are healthy. According to the lawyer, the complaint was made to force the client to leave the apartment because she had to pay the rent. “In the civilized world, you take action, you don’t call the police,” he said.

“Bruna is going through a difficult time in her financial life. She was without electricity and did not sleep in her apartment. Then she stayed in someone else’s house and could not take them there. But she often went there to take care of her pets. They were raised with lots of love and one of the cats is 10 years old. Even if you want him, you can’t abandon him. I went there almost every day. There was a day when there was an older cat period. When you have a cat and a big dog, in a small apartment, makes noise, dirt. That amount of dirt is compatible with the period. It’s not ideal, but it’s normal for people to do this in life, who has to work, commitment”, he declared.

OR Estadao I tried to contact Bruna to comment on the case, but I had no response until this text was published.
