Marco Ruffalo recalled the difficult situation he experienced in 2001, after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. In a podcast interview Without intelligencethe actor clarified that it was a benign tumor but it still left his wife, Sunrise Coigney, scared.
At the time, the couple’s son, Keen, was just a few days old. “When I went to tell him, at first he thought I was joking. Then he started crying and said, ‘I always knew you would die young,'” she said. “I might have laughed a little after I said that,” he added.
According to PageSix, the actor also explains that he discovered the tumor when his wife was still pregnant, but I think it’s better to wait a few days to tell her. He says he decided to go to the doctor after having a “crazy” dream.
“I woke up probably around 3 in the morning and had this crazy dream, it wasn’t like any other dream I’ve ever had. It wasn’t even a voice, it was just pure knowledge, like it was telling me: you have a brain tumor. and it needs to be addressed soon,” he recalls.
Even though he didn’t feel any symptoms other than the earache, he decided to see a doctor. After tests, the nurse allegedly said, “You have a mass behind your left ear the size of a golf ball and we don’t know what it is,” she says.
In the future Ruffalo would discover that it was a benign tumor, which was removed with surgery. When he woke up he was completely deaf in his left ear, as well as having facial paralysis. The paralysis disappeared after a year, but the hearing loss remained.
Today the actor is 56 years old and his son is 22.
