British Palace unveils first official portrait of Prince William and Kate Middleton

A big and exciting event in the history of 40-year-old Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton – today their first joint portrait was presented. The Duke and Duchess specially arrived in the region of Cambridgeshire, a county in the city of Cambridge, to personally see the finished work of the artist. Recall that Queen Elizabeth awarded the Cambridge Kate and William the title of the same name on their wedding day in April 2011.

The Royal Portrait Trust for Cambridgeshire, under the auspices of the Cambridge Public Trust, commissioned a portrait of the couple in 2021 from multi-award winning British artist Jamie Coret. Today, the work of art was exhibited at the Fitzwilliam Museum at the University of Cambridge, where the heroes of the painting appeared in person. The portrait is based on photographs taken in March 2020 during the monarchs’ visit to Dublin, when Kate Middleton stepped out in a glittering green The Vampire’s Wife gown and Prince William in a classic dark suit and blue tie.

It is an incredible privilege to be chosen to paint this painting,” says the author. “I wanted to portray Their Royal Highnesses in a way that makes them look casual and approachable, but also elegant and dignified. Since this is their first portrait together, I wanted the image to convey a sense of balance between their private and social lives. This painting was commissioned as a gift to the people of Cambridgeshire and I hope they enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it.

Later today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will meet with the author of the painting, Jamie Coret, as well as Lady Sibyl Marshall, wife of the late Sir Michael Marshall, who initiated the project. After the couple will take part in the celebration of the first ever Cambridgeshire County Day and visit a number of official events in various charities, public and government organizations. Among other things, the past Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Elizabeth II will be celebrated here.
