Leonardo DiCaprio praises Salgueiro’s Carnival 2024 plot and defends the Yanomami people; I wait

The samba school will defend indigenous rights and the actor spoke about the importance of the topic on his Instagram

Leonardo Dicaprio used his Instagram to raise awareness among followers of the situation of the Yanomami indigenous people. The actor cited Academicos do Salgueiro’s theme for Carnival 2024 and praised the samba school for giving greater visibility to the vulnerable situation experienced by people.

“For years, the Yanomami people have suffered brutal violence at the hands of miners and their financiers. Illegal mining has contaminated their waters and led to a humanitarian crisis of malnutrition, malaria, pneumonia and other diseases that increase mortality rates childish,” the activist wrote.

Along with the text, DiCaprio shared a video with images of the Amazon to the sound of the Salgueiro samba. In addition to the indigenous people, the samba school also prepared the samba-enredo in honor of Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips, who died in 2022, in Vale do Javari, in the western Amazon.

Re:wild, an environmental preservation organization founded by the actor in 2021, has signed a partnership with the samba school that will parade in Sapucaí on Sunday 11th.

He then quoted Davi Kopenawa, Yanomami spiritual leader and shaman: “We want your help. We want you to defend our planet Earth, our health, our language, our shaman, our wisdom, our singing, our joy .That’s why you’re choosing a very important song that everyone can listen to.”
