The acclaimed actor asks Globo for a retraction: “I sank into drugs, I tried to kill myself”

Douglas Sampaio showed an image to ‘Jornal Hoje’ when an actress from the station accused him of assault

In a video on Instagram, Douglas Sampaio, winner of ‘A Fazenda 8’ and actor of the series ‘DNA do Crime’, on Netflix, calls for punishment for two ex-girlfriends who accused him of assault, the actresses Rayanne Morais and Jeniffer Oliveira. In both cases he was acquitted by the courts.

“Too bad you’re right, you scream and no one hears you. Now proving you’re right and not getting it fixed is even worse,” she says. «It is absurd that a person lies to the law and does not pay… Defamation is a crime. I could have been arrested.”

The artist also underlined his desire to receive an apology from Globo. “I wish there was a retraction from Jornal Hoje,” she says.

In its edition of 26 June 2018, the afternoon news broadcast by the public aired an article on the complaint made by Jeniffer Oliveira, who at the time was working on the youth soap opera ‘Malhação: Vidas Brasileiras’.

“I appeared in the Jornal Hoje as an aggressor, as if I kicked (Jeniffer) and did everything (what she accused),” he complains.

Douglas says he has been damaged in his personal life and career. “I sunk into drugs. It’s difficult to say, but it is necessary to understand to what extent a lie can harm someone.”

He reports receiving threats and spending time without leaving his home out of fear. “They insulted me, they called me a monster… Then we started to lose ourselves, to lose our identity, I no longer knew who I was. I tried to kill myself a couple of times… I punched myself, I punished myself for something I didn’t do.”

Citing the legal issue, Douglas Sampaio rebels against those who possibly “take advantage of a law, Maria da Penha, to have visibility, involvement, evidence”.

In his opinion, the authorities must pay attention to possible false reports of crimes. “The Maria da Penha Law is very valid. But it is necessary to correct it. The woman who is beaten, the man must be arrested. Now, the woman who lies should at least see her sentence doubled.”

The blog leaves the space open to the aforementioned actresses and their respective defenses and also to TV Globo.

Reports of physical, sexual, psychological, moral or financial violence against women can be made by calling 191 (Military Police) and 180 (Women’s Service Centre). The call is free and the service is available 24 hours a day.
