Oppenheimer

Starting off our list of 2024 Best Picture Oscar nominees, “Oppenheimer” was a box office hit. The film, which tells the true story of the creator of the atomic bomb, is now available to rent on major streaming platforms, such as Prime Video.

In addition to Best Picture, the film competes in 12 other categories: Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Sound, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, best scenography. Production, Best Editing and Best Cinematography.

Past lives

In the romantic drama we meet Nora and Hae Sung, two childhood friends with an indescribable bond, but who end up following their own paths in life. Two decades later, they meet again in New York and that’s when everything starts to get complicated.

In addition to Best Film, the film competes in another important category: Best Original Screenplay.

Poor creatures

Following our list of Best Picture nominees, we have “Poor Creatures.” In the somewhat controversial comedy, we meet young Bella Baxter, who is brought back to life by scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter a la Frankenstein. However, now that she has the brain of a child, she decides to run away and live life like never before.

Emma Stone’s film arrives strong at the awards, also competing for best actress, best supporting actor, best director, best non-original screenplay, best original soundtrack, best costumes, best make-up and hairstyling, best production design, best editing and best cinematography.

American fiction

In “American Fiction”, Monk is a brilliant black writer, but his books are not popular as he refuses to portray blacks stereotypically in his work. He is pressured by his publisher to create a commercial work and as a joke he writes a story full of prejudices.

The film competes in four other categories: Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score.

Anatomy of a fall

Introducing the film: We follow Sandra, a German writer, and her son, Daniel, the couple’s 11-year-old, on a stunning investigation after Samuel, her German husband, is found dead outside their super-remote family home in the Alps. It was a murder? Was it accidental? We won’t give spoilers.

Like “American Fiction,” the film competes for four other categories: best actress, best director, best original screenplay and best editing.

Flower Moon Assassins

Murders that occurred under mysterious circumstances in the 1920s, affecting members of the Osage tribe, ended up triggering a major investigation involving the powerful J. Edgar Hoover, considered the first director of the FBI.

Accumulating a total of 10 nominations, we will see Leonardo DiCaprio’s film battle for the statuettes of Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Original Song, Best Original Score, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Cinematography and , obviously, best film.

Barbie

In director Greta Gerwig’s film, starring the wonderful Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, one of the many Barbie dolls begins to realize that her life is not as perfect as it seemed and, therefore, leaves Barbieland and comes to live in the real world.

The film promises to be once again the great rival of “Oppenheimer”, with seven more nominations, in addition to the best film: best supporting actress, best supporting actor, best adapted screenplay, best original song (with two nominations), best costumes and best production design.

The rejected

In this comedy-drama (yes, a mix of drama and comedy), we see a grumpy teacher develop a bond with a school troublemaker and the head chef.

Also nominated for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing.

Area of ​​interest

In “Zone of Interest”, we follow the dark point of view of a Nazi family living near the Auschwitz concentration camp.

The Polish film is also in the running for best director, best adapted screenplay, best international film and best sound.

Conductor

Last, but not least, a biopic. We see Bradley Cooper in the role of the American maestro Leonard Bernstein, while he falls in love with the Costa Rican actress Felicia Montealegre.
