The reason was the loud accusations against Herlufsholm – the school became the object of attention of a documentary, which claimed that sexual violence and bullying flourishes among students. At one time, four students guilty of gang rape were indeed expelled from there.
It has been a difficult process for us as a family, but based on the overall picture and our special position as heirs to the throne, we have decided that Prince Christian will leave Herlufsholm and Princess Isabella will not go to ninth grade at the same school,” Frederik continued in a statement. , – During the summer, together with our children, we will decide on the future choice of school. Thinking of the students who will continue their education in Herlufsholm, we hope that the school will now be calm, and the management will ensure the necessary changes and succeed in creating a culture where students thrive and feel safe.
In fact, the royal family reacted to the documentary even earlier – in early May, when it appeared on the net. Then they also made an official statement, sharing their deep disappointment with all of Europe.
As parents of a child who attends Herlufsholm, we are deeply shocked by the testimonies that have appeared in the documentary about this school. It is heartbreaking to hear about the systematic bullying and the culture of abuse and violence. This is completely unacceptable. In the near future we will monitor the changes that are obviously needed.
Note that Herlufsholm was founded almost 500 years ago specifically for the offspring of the Danish nobility – many members of the royal family and politicians attended this school.
