“Dad was an extraordinary man, known for his boundless heart and unwavering passion for the films of the 1940s and 1950s. His knowledge of the golden age of cinema didn’t just shape his professional life. “He was also a source of endless fascination for me,” she shared with Variety about him.

As for the cause of Joe Flaherty’s death, his daughter simply revealed in the statement that “after a short illness, he left us yesterday and since then I have been struggling to come to terms with this huge loss.”

Gudrun Flaherty has shared what her father’s final moments were like amid his ‘health problems’.

“Our favorite ‘SCTV’ cast member Joe Flaherty is seriously ill. Joe is aware of the seriousness of his health condition and would rather spend the rest of his time at home than in a facility,” she posted.

Short said goodbye to Joe with a moving message: “In our more than 50 years of friendship, there have been very few people as wise or as hilarious when it comes to comedy, teaching improv and the art of character work as Joe. At ‘SCTV’ we called him a presenter. In life, he was just the funniest person in the room. “I just adored him.”
