Kirill Serebrennikov announced the closure of the Gogol Center

As it became known, the contract with the current artistic director of the theater Alexei Agranovich, which expires on July 4, was decided not to be renewed. The Moscow Department of Culture has appointed Anton Yakovlev as the artistic director of the Gogol Center, and Alexander Bocharnikov as the director of the theater, TASS reports citing the press service of the department.

Anton Yakovlev is the son of the famous Soviet actor Yuri Yakovlev. Since 2004, he has staged performances for the enterprise, the Vakhtangov Theatre, the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater, the Russian Academic Youth Theatre, the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya and others. He was awarded the “Golden Knight” and “Theatrical Star” awards.

In 2012, the Gogol Moscow Drama Theater was reformatted into the Gogol Center. Kirill Serebrennikov was appointed artistic director. Since February last year, this post was held by Alexei Agranovich.
