The country’s most popular singer loves routine and is usually friendly with anyone he meets on the street
Resident since 1980 in a penthouse on Avenida Portugal, facing Guanabara Bay, Roberto Carlos has made the Urca neighborhood his private universe. He rarely leaves the region, one of the safest in Rio due to heavy surveillance of military installations.
In September 1998, the singer opened the Estúdio Amigo on Avenida São Sebastião, less than 1 km from his building. It is located in two integrated houses, surrounded by a wall and with Sugarloaf Mountain in the background. Isolated, the property guarantees the privacy so loved by the artist.
A night owl, Roberto usually wakes up only late in the morning. After coffee and lunch, in the afternoon he goes to the studio where he rehearses, records, holds meetings, receives guests (such as the celebrities of his end-of-year special Globo) and gives interviews.
The large plot of land hosts two special spaces: a garden dedicated to his third wife, Maria Rita, who died of cancer at the age of 38 in December 1999, and a chapel where the idol prays and receives a priest for occasional masses.
Although unmarked and discreet, Roberto Carlos’ studio is known to all the inhabitants of Urca. The singer attracts attention when he travels from his home behind the wheel of imported cars, some of which cost more than R$1 million.

Sometimes, as he walks along the narrow avenue, he waves at pedestrians. It has already happened to you that you run out of petrol and are helped by your driver and the security guards who protect you from a distance. In November 2021 he had to leave an Audi convertible on the street and hitch a ride in the team’s Golf.
Roberto Carlos finds in Urca the freedom he would have nowhere else. The quiet neighborhood allows him to move without fear of violence and free from inconvenient harassment. People keep their distance out of respect. Who wouldn’t want to have such a special neighbor?

On the 19th the singer will turn 83. The party will be with the fans of Sao Paulo. He will perform at the opening show of a new music venue, Mercado Pago Hall, in the Pacaembu neighborhood. The romantic idol owns an apartment in the south of the city, where he carries out real estate activities.
