Ratinho’s dancer resigns after the presenter’s embarrassing ‘joke’

In a video published last Thursday, the 18th, Cintia appeared serious, very different from the expression she usually uses to address her followers on her social network. In her words she explains the seriousness of the issue: a dismissal motivated by embarrassment and alleged hostile glances behind the scenes at SBT, the broadcaster she worked for.

“I have decided to leave Ratinho’s program. A few days ago I found myself in a situation that I did not choose to face and I want to make it clear here that I am very proud to be a woman of color,” the statement began.

She, who has worked in the Ratinho ballet program for 9 years, stressed that she did not expect to be the victim of a bad joke from the presenter. “I was caught off guard by an inappropriate and contradictory joke, because it was made by someone who has always praised my natural hair,” she explained in the video.

Precisely because she thought she had enough intimacy with the team to talk about her discomforts, Cintia says she looked for Ratinho to explain to him why the joke was inappropriate and why it had hurt her. However, even after nearly a decade of professional collaboration, she didn’t find the openness he needed during the conversation.

“Since I had the freedom, after all we have been living together for nine years, I decided to look for a dialogue. I tried to explain what the stigmas of such a game are, how it ends up affecting the lives of black people, how it affected mine daily life, on my mental health, on my professional life, especially as I work with my image on social media,” she said.

The dancer also stated that she expected an apology for what happened, but her expectations were disappointed. Days passed and nothing of the kind happened online: “The other week I was hoping something would happen, or a personal conversation, a note, a public clarification because my embarrassment was public, but nothing happened.”

She expected to be welcomed but, in reality, she received hostile looks from colleagues at the company. After the negative repercussions of the video in which Ratinho made a “joke” about Cíntia’s hair, she says she began to realize that some people were trying to blame her for the mobilization that took place on the Internet around her case.

Published on April 1, the moment received a barrage of criticism and accusations of racism from netizens. “I received hostile looks from some people, as if I was guilty of everything that was happening. There I understood that no one cared and that it was no longer my job, because I know very well how to distinguish gratitude from submission,” he said .

Regarding the decision to resign from the Ratinho program, Cintia assured that she is calm: “New beginnings are not easy, I have to be strong to take care of my daughter. I continue with my head held high and with a clear conscience because I tried to do what I I thought it was right.”
