In a statement to ‘Encontro’, with Patricia Poeta, the actress asks for schools and authorities to act; on Instagram she thanked him for the support received after revealing the case that happened in the Vera Cruz school, in Sao Paulo
The actress Samara Philip reported a case of racism against one of his 14-year-old daughters, committed by other students at the Vera Cruz school, a private school in the western area of São Paulo. This Monday, the 29th, in a statement to the program Meeting with Patricia Poetathe actress shared more details about the attack and advocated for strengthening anti-racism discussions in schools and society as a whole.
“My eldest daughter has been a victim of racism at school and it’s not the first time. When I lived in Rio de Janeiro, this had already happened. I also want to point out that I am against any type of erasure or lynching. The news leaked from WhatsApp groups, during discussions with parents at the school, and spread quickly,” Samara said.
The teenager is the result of the actress’s relationship with former basketball player Leandrinho. Last Monday, April 22, the girl’s notebook was stolen by her classmates. “The pages were torn violently, from a long research effort, which for her was worth a vote. And inside that same notebook there was a sentence of a racist, serious and criminal nature”, described the actress.
“It is no longer possible for the school to relativize a crime foreseen by the law. This debate must be carried forward with seriousness, with commitment, because, for me, anti-racist education it is a sum. It is the sum of the educational institution, of teaching at home, with parents, and of society itself.”
Samara continues: “Since I was little I have talked to my daughter about what racism is, about the damage it causes in society, even if she can name it, fight it, protect herself. So talk to your children, take I want these teenagers, not just the two of them, but the entire school, to learn a life lesson, grow up and become anti-racist citizens, “concludes the actress.
On Sunday evening, Samara vented on Instagram stories and thanked her for the support she received. “I apologize for the momentary silence, I am digesting and welcoming my daughter. I have come to tell you about all the fury of feelings that is happening here,” she wrote. “Racism is a crime and I will go to great lengths to ensure the law is enforced on a crime. Is it necessary for a black child/teen to be humiliated for the school to see its anti-racism policies fail miserably?” Watch the full story:
Understand the case
Samara Felippo has opened a complaint and the Civil Police will investigate the case. The case, registered as “race or color prejudice”, was forwarded to the 14th DP (Pinheiros). The Vera Cruz school reported that the two students identified as perpetrators of the attack have been suspended indefinitely.
According to a report made by Samara to a group of parents on Whatsapp, to which the Estadao accessed on Sunday 28th, the eldest daughter’s notebook was stolen, the pages of which were torn and then returned to the school’s lost and found with a racist insult on one page.
Samara expressed her indignation at the violence suffered by her daughter: “I’m still digesting everything and maybe I will never be able to, every time I look at her notebook or see her bent over the table redoing each page, it hurts me” soul.
