Leticia Sabatella talks about autism diagnosis: ‘It’s very complicated to be me’


The actress received the diagnosis at age 52, but said she had seen the signs since she was young: ‘I feel like I need a character’

The actress Letizia Sabatella He spoke about his autism diagnosis, discovered in 2023, at the age of 52. In an interview on the program Without censorshipon TV Brasil, she spoke about what it was like to discover she had autism spectrum disorder (ASD) late, after her daughter Clara received the same diagnosis.

“I was already at a stage in my life where I didn’t care,” he joked. “But I didn’t look [o diagnóstico], I rejected my daughter’s. I found it absurd. For me he was like me.”

According to Letícia, after her daughter’s diagnosis, a psychiatrist friend suggested that the actress might also be on the autism spectrum.

After taking the test and receiving confirmation, Letícia realized that there had always been signs throughout her life. “That moment, in my childhood, when I was always with animals, that look at a sound… that hypersensitivity,” she said.

For her it was necessary to have a “character” suited to different social situations. “I feel like I need a character to socialize with all the time, to communicate with. Ever since I was a child, I’ve always been an animal, or a thing, a superhero, an entity to be present with. It’s very complicated to interpret. be me,” he said. .

“I remember saying, for example, that it would be very difficult for me to sing if I didn’t have a character,” she said. “Looking directly at the audience… was very complicated.”

The actress also said she recognizes the same signs in her mother, who has not been diagnosed. “But I look and think, ‘My God, you look at the hypersensitivity in her skin. What an absolute tone she has,'” she said.
