Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Department of Emergency Services said in a statement that a caller reported seeing a man who appeared to have been bitten by a shark.

Members of the local fire brigade, police and ambulance immediately rushed to the scene.

Lifeguards used a jet ski to recover Tamayo Perry’s body, which they brought to shore.

Medics tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead moments later, according to Enright.
Stab magazine detailed that witnesses reported that the interpreter was allegedly missing an arm and a leg.

Authorities have issued shark warnings in the area after what happened to the celebrity, the spokeswoman said.

Tamayo Perry was honored

After the fatal incident, Kurt Lager, Honolulu’s acting chief of ocean safety, honored Tamayo Perry at a news conference.

“It’s well known on the north coast. “He’s a professional surfer known all over the world,” he initially stated.

“His personality was contagious and as much as people loved him, he loved others even more,” she said, adding that he was “a savior that everyone loved.”

For his part, Rick Blundgiardi, the city’s mayor, said that “Tamayo was a legendary and well-respected waterman” and described his death as a “tragic loss”.

Perry was born in 1975 in Hawaii and started surfing at the age of 12, quickly gaining a reputation as “a promising kid who had to beg for surfboards because he had no sponsors,” reports the New York Post.

His acting career also includes such projects as ‘Hawaii Five-0’, ‘Lost’ and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.
