Death of Silvio Santos
The presenter Silvio Santos, 93, died in the early hours of Saturday. He had been hospitalized since the 1st of this month at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in the neighborhood of Morumbi, in the south of São Paulo, for treatment of a case of H1N1, a subtype of influenza A. The information was released by SBT on social media.

“Today the sky rejoices with the arrival of our beloved Silvio Santos. He lived 93 years to bring happiness and love to all Brazilians. The family is very grateful to Brazil for more than 65 years of living together with great joy,” SBT said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“For us, Senor Abravanel is even more special and we are very happy for the gift that God has given us and for all the wonderful moments we spent together. That wide smile and that familiar voice will be remembered forever with great gratitude. Rest in peace that you will always be eternal in our hearts,” the statement concluded.
The presenter’s cause of death was reportedly due to bronchopneumonia resulting from H1N1 infection, according to a medical bulletin released by the hospital.
