With good humor, Fabio Arruda taught us to be elegant and avoid ostentation

Etiquette consultant and former artist of ‘Fazenda’ has gained space on TV after organizing the wedding of his famous cousin

Not long ago, this columnist was walking along Paulista Avenue when he saw Fabio Arruda at a stand selling cell phone accessories at Market Paulista, a popular shopping mall. At first, it was strange. What was such a chic man doing in a place frequented by those looking for cheap clothes?

I soon realized that this situation represented the personality of the etiquette consultant: he liked to frequent all kinds of places, from luxurious high-society parties to neighborhood street vendors. He reveled in diversity. Despite being sophisticated, he was a man without frills.

The news of his death, at the age of 54, puts a premature end to a lively television career. He worked for several broadcasters, including Record, TV Gazeta and RedeTV. There were tables where he taught daily etiquette and helped people organize their lives.

Already very well known, he participated in the first edition of ‘A Fazenda’, in 2009, to return in ‘A Fazenda: A Nova Chance’, eight years later. He never came close to winning, but he produced funny cuts and a politically incorrect meme (“Demented”).

The beginning of his fame came when he was interviewed by the press to comment on the organization of the wedding of his cousin, the actress Patrícia de Sabrit, to the singer Fábio Jr., in January 2001. The party at the Jockey Clube in São Paulo had a cinematic setting. The union lasted only six months.

Lately he has been running his own Internet program, Pod Arruda. Fabio leaves as a lesson the importance of being polite to everyone and, if possible, elegant in dressing, as well as avoiding at all costs ostentations of bad taste.

In his latest Instagram posts, the consultant warned about the value of prevention in this Red September, a month dedicated to raising awareness about heart care and the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

It was during a check-up that he discovered a 90% blockage in an artery, he said in a video. The surgery went as planned. Shortly after returning home, in the Jardins neighborhood, he was found dead. Discreet in his private life, he was single and had no children.
