In the Netflix documentary “Doleira: The Story of Nelma Kodama”, the story shows the main character’s romantic relationships and involvement in money laundering
On September 4th, the entrepreneur and digital influencer Deolane Bezerra was arrested during Operation Integrationlaunched against a gang suspected of having moved approximately R$ 3 billion in a money laundering from gambling. But much earlier, another name became known nationwide launder money for politicians and businessmen: Nelma Kodama.
A descendant of Italians and Japanese, Nelma attempted to board with 200 thousand euros at the Guarulhos airport, but was caught red-handed by the Federal Police, investigated, arrested and convicted as part of the Petrobras plan, by the Federal Public Ministry task force, in Operation Lava Jet in 2014.
Her story had such an impact that in 2024 she received a documentary on Netflix, which told her entire story. In “Doleira: The Story of Nelma Kodama,” audiences learn in detail how a former Interior dentist became the first woman to be arrested during Operation Lava Jato and a major player in the money laundering scheme.
On June 20, 2016, she was released and placed under house arrest after signing a plea agreement with the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF). Years later, she did not hide her electronic ankle bracelet when she welcomed the team of “Vogue” magazine to her luxurious apartment in São Paulo for a photo shoot.
