Washington Olivetto was admitted to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro

Last Sunday, the 13th, he died in Rio de Janeiro, Washington Olivetto73 years old. The publicist had been hospitalized at Copa Star hospital for four months. He left behind three children and the cause of death was not disclosed.




He was one of the greatest icons of Brazilian advertising, responsible for creating important national advertising campaigns such as “Garoto Bombril” and “Primeiro bra da Valisère”.

In the 1980s he founded the WBrasil agency, which is currently part of McCann and has become a point of reference for marketing in the country. Olivetto has also won more than 50 Lions at the Cannes Advertising Festival, one of the most important awards in global marketing.

Washington is in the Hall of Fame at The One Club in New York and is also part of the group selected for Lifetime Achievement at the Clio Awards.

Three month kidnapping

In 2001, Washington Olivetto was kidnapped by Argentine, Colombian and Chilean bandits in Sao Paulo. After almost 3 months of captivity, he was rescued with the help of a medical student, who, at the time, suspected noises coming from the neighbor.

The wall of the room where the publicist was held hostage was adjacent to the student’s home, who used a stethoscope to listen to the conversations and alerted the police to what was happening.
