Last Friday, November 8, the digital influencer Mariana Michelini he underwent the third graft in the long and delicate process of facial reconstruction, carried out in Araranguá, Santa Catarina.
Serious complications
The procedure is part of a series of complex surgeries that seek to restore Mariana’s lower lip, which suffered severe deformation after a failed lip filler in 2020. At the time, without her consent, she was given an injection of PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate), a plastic and permanent substance, which caused serious complications.

The influencer shares her healing journey on social media and revealed in a recent video that the most recent graft involved the use of a flap from her own tongue, a technique that aims to restore the lower lip and ensure the necessary vascularization in the region.
This type of intervention, although rare and complex, was fundamental in restoring the functionality and appearance of the influencer’s mouth. She said she is taking antibiotics and painkillers to ease the pain and has already managed to brush her upper teeth and tongue, which is major progress.
It is believed to be hyaluronic acid
The first filling, carried out in Matão, São Paulo, where she believed she was receiving hyaluronic acid, but in reality she was injected with PMMA, a substance considered high risk by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and not recommended by the Brazilian Society Authority of Plastic Surgery (SBCP). In the influencer, the reaction to PMMA was severe, leading to intense inflammation and the need to remove the upper lip.
Impossible case?
For many experts, the case of Mariana seemed impossible to solve, but the influencer found support in a free initiative dedicated to low-income patients with facial deformities. This support allowed her to access the care she needed so much.
